Neighbourhoods
Arabian Ranches
The Arabian Ranches is a fairly new and exclusive residential neighbourhood located near three key ring roads that lead to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai. It is an Emaar property. Living in the Arabian Ranches provides a life of luxury with an 18 hole Golf Club located inside the Ranches as well as the Dubai Polo Club and Motor City very near by.
Bur Dubai
Across the creek is Bur Dubai, the heart of the financial district. The main street is known as “Bank Street” with the computer and electronic stores further up. Bur Dubai is also where the Heritage Village and Dubai Museum are located in the Bastakiya section. Bur Dubai is the historical section of Dubai, where many old buildings still stand.
Burj Downtown Area
Also known as the “Old Town” the Downtown Burj area is still being developed. Withl construction in progress, the Burj Khalifa makes for a wonderful backdrop to the Palace Hotel, the Address Hotel, and the Dubai Mall. Surrounded by a lake, the Burj Khalifa is the centre of this new shopping and nightlife hub where you can dine by the lake and enjoy the fountain show.
Deira
Deira is a crowded, bustling neighbourhood in Dubai. It is home to several trading companies, government buildings, souks and shopping malls. The Al Rigga and Al Muraqqabat areas are worth seeing as they are full of restaurants, cafés, and late night shisha places. There are also aromatic spice souks surrounded by fresh fish, fruit and vegetable markets.
Discovery Gardens
Still being developed, it is located near the Ibn Battuta Mall and is mainly residential with no restaurants built yet. The location is very convenient for those working in offices off Sheikh Zayed Road and especially for those working in Media City.
Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City
Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, the brainchild of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, house large multinational IT and media companies as well as budding start-up companies.
Dubai Marina
A favoured hotspot for restaurant goers and residents alike, Dubai Marina is completed with the hottest hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs starting to move into the finished buildings. The luxurious Dubai Marina Yacht Club has restaurants, a nightclub and the Dubai Marina Mall (next to the Yacht Club) is a great place to visit for shopping.
Emirates Hills
Emirates Hills is a gated community located near interchange No. 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road owned by Emaar Properties. The most notable landmark about Emirates Hills is the world-class Montgomerie 18-hole Championship Golf Course created by Desmond Muirhead and seven-time European Order of Merit winner, Colin Montgomerie. Some of the most luxurious properties are located in this mainly expat community, which looks out onto the golf course, truly a golfers’ paradise.
The Gardens
This community is really just that. There are two schools within the community, hypermarkets, swimming facilities, basketball, a clubhouse, all the amenities that define luxury. There are lush landscapes, football fields, tennis courts and a host of other outdoor activities for residents to partake in.
The Greens
The Greens is still an up and coming neighbourhood in Dubai, and has set the standard for other communities in Dubai. The Greens quickly became popular with the first ever rent-to-own plan where residents could rent and then decide later if they would like to own the property or not. Initially, The Greens were also Emaar’s quickest selling property because of the nice location right off Sheikh Zayed Road, and the high standards of finishing.
Jebel Ali Free Zone
Further up Sheikh Zayed Road is the JAFZ. Warehousing facilities are conveniently located here and so is Dubal, one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world. It is renowned for having the world's largest manmade port as well.
Jumeirah
An upscale neighbourhood, Jumeirah is famous for its large mosques, parks, villas, and nightclubs. Tree-lined suburbs border the coastline with its many hotels, including the spectacular Burj Al Arab. Also known for its open beaches where bikini clad ex-pats go for water sports, sun bathing, and relaxation.
Jumeirah Beach Residence
Jumeirah Beach Residence, or JBR, is popular among local residents. Best known for its row of cafes, restaurants and shops, called “The Walk,” JBR has all the amenities for tourists as well. The Walk at JBR is its own destination near the Dubai Marina with a sprawling open beach, several outdoor cafes and restaurants, and many different shops to choose from.
Karama
Karama is a mainly residential area in the older part of Dubai. It is renowned for its textile shops and family run stores where one can haggle with the shop owners. It is located across the creek from Deira, near Bur Dubai.
Mirdiff
Mirdiff, located off Emirates Road (311), is home to the new Arabian Center mall. It is a quiet neighbourhood that is still being developed and, with Mushrif Park near by, is ideal for families and residents.
The Palm Jumeirah
This posh destination has everything one needs:
a water park, restaurants, hotels, and lots of beaches. This famous
land mark of Dubai is now complete and tourists can enjoy the water
park at Atlantis Hotel, or swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Bay and
residents can inhabit the recently built villas and apartments.
Whatever the mood, there is something for everyone. Residents like the
beach front property and private beach access, whereas tourists like
the close proximity to the rest of Dubai, providing the feeling of a
private island getaway.
Satwa
Satwa lies between Karama and Jumeirah and is a large part of the neighbourhood behind Shiekh Zayed Road. Satwa is also a residential area predominantly for families, with many small restaurants, cafes, and markets.
Sheikh Zayed Road
Sheikh Zayed Road, parallel to Jumeirah Beach Road, leads to Media City, Jebel Ali Free Zone and eventually ends in Abu Dhabi. The high-rise designs of innovative architects have mushroomed along this main arterial highway.
Umm Suqeim
Located between al Wasl Raod and Jumeirah Road, Umm Suqeim is located in the middle of some of Dubai’s most famous landmarks such as the Burj al Arab, the Madinat Jumeirah (a must see especially at night), Wild Wadi Water Park, and Jumeirah Beach.
